This
tour takes you walking through some of the most picturesque villages and
ancient monasteries of L
adakh.
The trek is soft and crosses many Hamlets where you can see the day today
lifestyle of villagers. It takes to the
monasteries hidden deep into the mountains and one can capture these
monks and nuns who has been meditating and
living in these mountains since ancient time.
DAY 01. ARRIVE DELHI
Arrive
Delhi. You will be met on arrival outside the customs enclosure and escorted
till your check in.
Overnight at the hotel.
DAY 02.
DELHI - LEH BY AIR AND THEN BY ROAD TO ALCHI
You will be met by our
representative and will drive straight from airport to Alchi. (70 Kms/44
Miles). Alchi is at an altitude of 3070 Meters which is lower then Leh and
much favorable to the acclimatization process. On arrival check in hotel.
Day rest to acclimatize. Evening visit the Alchi monastery, the only
monastery in Ladakh amongst 34 monastery which is not on a hill top.
ALCHI GOMPA: 70 Kms from Leh, on the banks of the Indus, is the Alchi
Gompa dating a thousand years back. One of its walls features thousands of
miniature sized pictures of the Buddha. Three large sized images made of
clay and painted brightly are its focal attractions.

DAY 03. ALCHI - DHA
Drive from Alchi to the
twin village of Dha and Biama, which is 105 Kms from Alchi enroute visiting
Lamayuru monastery.
LAMAYURU GOMPA: The oldest holy site
in Ladakh, it was a bon shrine prior to the advent of Buddhism. Also known
as Yung Drung (Swastika) it is sited on a high promontory overlooking the
village and valley. For sheer spectacle value no other Gompa can match
Lamayuru.

DHA-BEMA: (The twin village of the Aryans): This village is famous
for its people and are called the Drokpas (The pasture people), settled in
the lower Indus valley are the descendants of "Aryans". They are
Buddhist but also worship the nature Gods and Spirits as well as Dah &
Tseringma protectors. Their tutelary Gods perhaps the most unique feature is
their revulsion for Cows, Onions and Water, they believe bathing will drive
their Gods away. It is also said that they were the decedents of Alexander's
Army who came this way. As can one notice their physical features unlike any
Mongolians, they are rather built like Germans with fare complexion and blue
eyes. This villages been opened in recent years for the tourist and has been
the study field for Anthropologist, Photographers and Historians of the
world. A restricted area permit has to be availed before going there.
Overnight camp at Dha.
DAY 04. IN DHA
Explore the
twin village. Walk in the village to interact with the people, your local
guide will interpret for you. Take photograph of this colorful people and
village. Overnight Camp at Dha.
DAY 05. DHA - ALCHI
Morning drive back to Alchi and check in at the hotel Relax for the balance
day. Overnight at the hotel.
DAY 06. TREK FROM LIKIR TO
YANGTHANG (3,700M)
Morning after breakfast at the Alchi drive to
Liker (09 Kms) start the trek towards south through trail behind the
monastery, amidst wheat fields. After a walk for 20 minutes, you come down
to the rough Motorable road to Hemis Shukpachan. Ignore the road and walk
through the trail down the road along with Stupas west word.
The
easy ascent starts, from here, which leads you to the top of the small pass
"Chagatse La" (3,700M). Again leave the road on your right and
walk through the trail down and up to the road. From here you can have the
view of a hamlet called Saspotse. Walk towards the village leaving the road
on your right hand side. The village is reached after crossing a river. Take
the trail behind the village through a small gorge, which takes you to "Phoebe
la" pass (3,849M). You can have the view of Yangthang village from
here.
After a walk for 10 minutes through the road you arrive to
the camping site. Overnight in the camps.

DAY 07. YANGTHANG TO RIZONG - YANGTHANG
Start the trek walking
through village houses and along the river through the Gorge with Plantation
of Apricot and Apple. After walk for an hour through the Gorge, you reach on
a rough Motorable road, which enters into another gorge to your right hand
side. It takes around 30 Minutes before you will have the view of Rizong
monastery. Visit the monastery and Chulichan Nunnery. After the visit Of the
monastery, you can also visit the monastery kitchen and have a Cup of Butter
tea after the visit trek back to Yangthang. There is a shorter way to go to
Hemis Shukpachan through a steep pass from behind the monastery.
RIDZONG GOMPA: Rizong is the most isolated monastery of all the
monastery of Ladakh. There is no entry fee in this monastery, you can offer
whatever you can. Rizong Gompa is known as the paradise for Meditation. Guru
Padma Sambhava is believed to meditate here for years. One can still find
the small caves where Lamas used to meditate for years cutting themselves
from the rest of the world except for a one feet square outlet window from
where they accept the one time meal of the day.
CHULICHAN:
Chulichan, the nunnery is around one and half Kms. below the Rizong
monastery; around 20 Nuns resides at Chulichan. They provide food and cloths
to the monks and perform morning and evening prayers.
DAY 08.
YANGTHANG - HEMIS SHUKPACHAN (3596 M)
Today is a shorter walk if
you want to camp at Hemis Shukpachan village. You can also walk till
Temisgam or village of Ang before Temisgam, which takes around 6-7 hrs. As
soon as you cross The river, the climb of the phoebe La (4,000 M) Starts,
which takes around 01 hour to reach the Top of the pass. After Another hour
or half you reach Hemis Shukpachan.
Overnight at the camp.

DAY 09. HEMIS SHUKPACHAN - TEMISGAM
After an easy walk for an hour
you will start climbing Meptak La. After the pass you reach Ang Villages
near the river. After crossing the river you can walk down To Temisgam
village. The Camp is near the road. We can visit the Temisgam Palace,
monastery and Nunnery.
Overnight at the camp.
DAY 10.
TEMISGAM - KHALSE - LEH
Walk towards Tia along the road for
sometimes and then cross the river. After Walking for a few Minutes you will
start climbing the Bongbong La. Then you reach the Leh - Srinagar highway.
You can walk upto Khalsi along the road Otherwise your trek finishes here.
Evening drive on to Leh. Overnight at the hotel.
DAY
11. LEH - DELHI BY AIR
Morning in time transfer to airport to
connect flight for Delhi. You will be met on Arrival and Escorted till the
hotel. After check in proceed for the city tour of Old and New Delhi.
During the city tour visit drive past the opulent Red Fort. Visit Jama
Masjid - the biggest mosque of Asia, Rajghat - memorial site of Mahatma
Gandhi and later enjoy a rickshaw ride through the busy streets of Chandni
Chowk, the shopping center of Old Delhi. Later drive on to New Delhi and
visit Humayun's Tomb - the mausoleum of Emperor Humayun, Qutab Minar built
by Qutab-ud-din Aibek. Drive past the secretarial offices, Parliament. Visit
the India Gate - war memorial and Connaught Place the city center.
Evening at leisure and late evening transfer to International airport to
connect flight for onward destination.
DAY 12. LEAVE DELHI
Take the flight home on this day
