Fairmont to open hotel in Jaipur

JAIPUR: Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, will set foot in India with its first property in Jaipur near Amber. Scheduled to be launched in September 2010, the hotel will be a 248-room property.
The hotel is at present under construction, adjacent to Le Meridien on the Jaipur-Delhi highway. With Jaipur developing as an attractive meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions destination, the hotel hopes to capitalise on this, especially with its green tag. To accommodate the area’s growing meetings market, there will also be a 48,500 square foot convention centre as well as gardens that can host over 1,000 guests.

Best Western India to add 10 more hotels by 2009 end

In a bid to expand its footprint in the Indian market, Best Western India focuses on multi-locations in metro cities. Best Western has plans to add 10 more hotels to its Indian portfolio, which will add around 800 rooms to the existing inventory by 2009 end. At present, the company has 22 hotels under management and franchise agreements. However, 18 hotels in different locations including Goa, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Ooty, Mysore, Jalandhar and Ludhiana are in the final stages of negotiation with developers.

Taj Acquires Sea Rock, Mumbai

Indian Hotels Co. (IH IN): The company, which runs the Taj Group of hotels, acquired control of Hotel Sea Rock in north Mumbai for 6.8 billion rupees, to boost the rooms it can offer travelers to the country’s commercial hub.

Carlson to open 51 hotels, including 24 Radisson by 2011

Carlson Hotels Worldwide is witnessing its fastest phase of expansion in India. One of the fastest growing hotel chains in India, Carlson Hotels Worldwide is set to triple its existing portfolio by 2011. The hotel company boasts of a strong pipeline with as many as 51 more hotels, currently under its various stage of development. Half of these developments would be under the Radisson (24 hotels) brand, making it most possibly the largest hotel brand in India by an international hotel chain by mid 2011. Besides, the company is also seeing significant growth for its other brands such as the Country Inn & Suites, Park Plaza and Park Inn. The hotel company currently boasts of a portfolio of 24 hotels operating under Radisson, Park Plaza, Country Inn & Suites (CIS) and Park Inn.
 

Courtyard by Marriott' opens in Pune with 153 rooms

Marriott International Inc forayed into Pune with the launch of a chic & contemporary – Courtyard by Marriott, Pune Hinjewadi. This is the second Courtyard property in India after its first property launch, three years back, in Chennai. Located a kilometer off the Hinjewadi/Wakad junction on the Pune – Bengaluru highway, Courtyard by Marriott, Pune Hinjewadi, offers 153 spacious rooms and six suites. The hotel also offers meeting facilities divided into four zones, comprising of a sprawling 7200 sq ft of indoor and outdoor space.

Five hotel groups put up initial investment for Aerocity (Delhi International Airport)

ibis Hotels has won development rights for a hotel within the hospitality district at Delhi “Aerocity”. The construction of the property will start later this year. Accor, the fastest growing international hotel operator in India, announced this on June 9. The site was won by Accor’s joint venture for ibis hotels for the Indian sub-continent – InterGlobe Hotels. Construction for a 315-room ibis hotel will be done on the 1.7-acre site, with an option for further expansion. The hotel is expected to open in 2011.

According to The Economic Times, Saraf Hotels, Bird Group, Lemon Tree Hotels, Accor and Interglobe have been awarded contracts to build hotels in Delhi’s Aerocity
The brands for the joint venture’s two other hotel properties will be decided later. Saraf Hotels will launch a five-star property under its brand, as well. Bird Group will put up a 230 room five-star property under the Dusit D2 hotel brand. Lemon Tree Hotels will come up with two hotels in the Aerocity — one under a budget brand, Red Fox and one mid-range hotel under the Lemon Tree banner. It will add a 500 room inventory.
However, none of the properties will be ready in time for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
